Company: Employer Flexible is a professional employer organization (PEO), that provides outsourcing services to small and medium sized businesses. Their offerings include human resource consulting, safety and risk mitigation services, payroll processing, employer payroll tax filing, workers' compensation insurance, health benefits, employers' practice, and liability insurance (EPLI), retirement vehicles (401(k)), regulatory compliance assistance, workforce management technology, and training and development. Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager responsible for managing the company’s financial accounting processes, including month end close process, reconciliations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role involves overseeing daily accounting operations, preparing financial statements, and ensuring that all financial activities comply with relevant regulations and standards. The Accounting Manager plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records and supporting strategic financial planning. Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision: Lead and manage a team of accounting professionals, including assigning tasks, performance evaluations, and staff development. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to the accounting team, ensuring that team members have the skills and knowledge needed to perform their roles effectively. Assist in the professional development of the team.
  • Monthly Close: Create and post journal entries as assigned, review entries and account reconciliations prepared by staff, reconcile assigned accounts (including high volume bank reconciliations), and oversee intercompany reconciliation process.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to identify trends and areas for improvement. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to senior management and external stakeholders in accordance with GAAP.
  • Budget Management: Monitor budgets, assist in forecasting future financial performance and identifying potential variances.
  • Internal Controls: Assist in the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations. Assist in the preparation of documentation for state licensing and compliance audits and ensure that audit findings are addressed promptly.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate with external auditors during the audit process, preparing necessary documentation and addressing audit findings.
  • Tax Preparation: Oversee the preparation of federal and state tax returns working with external tax partners.
  • Systems and Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and controls. Implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations, sales, and payroll, to ensure that financial processes support overall business objectives. Provide financial expertise to cross-functional initiatives.
  • Special Projects: Assist the Director of Accounting and CFO with special projects, including mergers and acquisitions, system implementations, and other strategic initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Skills: Strong technical accounting skills, including knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems (Great Plains is a plus), and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with financial analysis and reporting tools.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing financial records and reporting.
  • Leadership Skills: Effective leadership and team management abilities to motivate and guide accounting staff.
