Assistant Controller to join a leading manufacturing company in
Modesto, CA . This pivotal role combines leadership, strategic financial planning, and operational expertise to support accurate financial reporting and drive process improvements.
Key Responsibilities As the Assistant Controller, you will:
- Perform general accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and production teams to provide actionable financial insights.
- Maintain and document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
- Oversee the tracking, capitalization, and depreciation of fixed assets.
- Manage the accurate recording of asset additions, disposals, and fixed asset schedules.
- Prepare lease accounting entries , system updates, and audit schedules.
- Maintain financial records to support general ledger accounts .
- Lead the accounts payable (AP) process, ensuring timely invoice processing, adherence to payment terms, and strong internal controls.
- Drive weekly AP payment processing , including cash requirement preparation, check runs, and electronic payments.
- Oversee accounts receivable (AR) functions, including invoicing, cash application, and reporting to optimize cash flow and maintain customer accounts.
- Prepare and manage audit documentation and collaborate with external auditors.
- Drive the period-end close process , including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting standards.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting team.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis, including product costing, margin analysis , and operational KPIs .
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Controller, supporting business decisions and long-term financial goals.
Qualifications and Skills To excel in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance , or a related field (CPA or CMA certification preferred).
- Experience with ERP implementations or upgrades .
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience , ideally in manufacturing or industrial sectors.
- 4+ years of leadership experience managing an accounting/finance team.
- Proven success in process improvement and automation of accounting functions.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP , period-end close processes, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and a strong ability to analyze financial data.
- Exceptional organizational skills , attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Experience collaborating with external auditors and preparing audit documentation.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning skills.
