Position Summary

The Assistant Hospital Administrator sets objectives, develops plans, staffs, and directs activities of assigned departments/areas of responsibility. Assists hospital's senior leader in the operation of the hospital. May assume administrative responsibility for the hospital in the absence of the hospital senior leader. In addition, the Associate Administrator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing hospital activities pertaining to regulatory compliance, legal issues, hospital licensing, hospital preparation for CARF/JCAHO/DBHR certification, quality assurance activities, outcomes assessment, confidentiality regulations of HIPAA/CFR 42, Part 2, and medical staff privileging, credentialing and scheduling (as applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the hospital, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Participates in the planning and development of departmental budgets, revenue, capital and operational expenses, sufficient number of staff, and any other plans for allocation of fiscal or other resources according to the scope of services provided.
  • Develops, designs and provides for a written scope of services, departmental policies and procedures that guide and support the provision and integration of services according to mission and vision of the hospital.
  • Directs the coordination and integration of departmental services with other departments and the hospital's primary functions.
  • Participates in hospital and departmental performance improvement activities to measure and assess the quality of services provided.
  • Guides and directs management in the development and promotion of new and existing hospital services.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the subordinate units/departments.
  • Directs and supports performance improvement activities for the facility.
  • Establishes operating policies consistent with the hospital senior leader's broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution.
  • Evaluates the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Manages multiple subordinate department managers who supervise staff members in multiple departments.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, finance, or clinical specialty. Master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or clinical specialty.

Licenses/Certification: Healthcare professional licensure preferred.

Experience:

Minimum two years in health care administration/management. Minimum two years' experience in facility operations management, human resources management, and/or finance. Graduate level education may substitute on a year-to-year basis for the required experience.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, word-processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to spend a limited amount of time on travel required.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of JCAHO, local, state, and, federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of general budgeting, accounting, and management skills.
  • Ability to exercise complex analytical judgment in the work environment.
