Job Description

The Associate Research Scientist will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of researchers and scientists as part of the ClimateIQ, an AI-driven climate risk tool. The role will manage user experience research and outreach efforts for ClimateIQ to ensure the tool meets the needs of diverse stakeholders. This role involves conducting user research, outreach, and translating user insights into actionable recommendations. The Associate Research Scientist will have an opportunity to work with a diverse team of climate scientists, students, faculty, and other researchers contributing to this effort.

Responsibilities

• Conduct background research on similar tools and initiatives.

• Conduct user research (interviews, surveys, focus groups) to understand stakeholder needs and improve tool usability and accessibility.  

• Assist with managing contacts, outreach and organizing coproduction events or workshops.

• Maintain a stakeholder database to track user research participation and findings.

• Develop brief technical reports to communicate findings. 

In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $30/hr.  New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

• Currently enrolled or have completed a degree program (BS or Masters) in environmental science, ecology, biology or related fields.

• Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in conducting literature reviews and data analysis.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality in research work.

• Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft Office Teams)

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

• Experience with conducting research on themes related to urban nature, ecology, climate change, environmental justice and related concepts

• Strong organizational, time-management, communication and writing skills
