Project Overview:

The ML2 Project includes the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will support Bechtel’s communications, corporate affairs issue management, or community affairs programs. You will perform research, conduct interviews, write stories, and draft content for internal and external communications. Your work will ensure that jobs are completed on time, deadlines are met and will support compelling narratives and impactful communication. #LI-KL1

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Researches, conducts interviews, writes, edits, and maintains content for a variety of external Bechtel publications and websites. 
  • Coordinates photography, when necessary, to support articles. 
  • Researches, writes, edits, and maintains content for the communications function, including face-to-face engagement, electronic news, intranet management, and change management activities. 
  • Coordinates issue management, corporate and public affairs, communications, and/or community affairs programs for a project or corporate group. 
  • Supports the organization’s events planning and management activities. 
  • Supports the implementation and maintains policies, procedures, and processes that ensure the business unit, project, or program’s communication needs are met in a consistent, efficient, and flexible manner. 
  • Adheres to Bechtel personnel policies, management instructions, and other relevant company policies and procedures. 
  • Monitors job progress and alerts supervisor when schedules appear to be in jeopardy or deadlines may not be met. 
  • Collects data and metrics on a variety of communications activities and outcomes and creates reports based on those metrics. 
  • Assists in planning and implementing all-employee meetings, community outreach programs, and other events, including presentations and logistics. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience communicating progress on a construction site.
  • Experience identifying newsworthy internal stories.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop and a proficient user of the Microsoft Office suite of products.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to quickly turnaround articles, is a must.
  • Thorough knowledge of journalism styles, specifically AP Style, and thorough familiarity with English grammar rules; skills in editing and proofreading.
  • Ability to understand highly technical concepts and translate into engaging stories and multimedia products for both internal and external audiences.
  • Must be self-motivated and take initiative in ensuring job duties are executed.
  • Proven ability to build and manage positive relationships with communications team members, peers, senior leadership, and customers.
  • Must have strong time management skills.
  • Ability to walk on the project site (including some areas of uneven terrain) for extended periods of time to support communication activities.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment in construction zone, to include but not limited to, hardhat, safety glasses, reflective vest, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Ability to help develop presentations, electronic newsletters, and all forms of written and visual communications products.
  • Ability to excel in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Available during non-work hours for emergency situations or overtime requirements.
  • Strong relationship building and management skills with craft and professional staff.
  • Ability to develop solutions to problems where guidelines are not well defined.
  • Intermediate skill or knowledge of communication tools such as newsletter software, SharePoint, web content management, photography, and video production.
