Communications Specialist

Based in Seattle/Tukwila, WA

Drivers Union is a worker-led organization whose mission is to organize, support, and represent Uber and Lyft drivers and other gig workers in their struggle for justice and fairness. Our organization has achieved nation-leading rights and benefits for thousands of gig workers in Washington State, and we are constantly seeking ways to address inequities in our economy and improve the lives of the workers and immigrant communities that we serve.

Drivers Union is seeking a full-time professional who can provide a full range of communications support to the organization. We are seeking someone who comes with senior-level experience and/or is equipped to grow into a trusted leadership role. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, particularly candidates who are comfortable working in multiple languages.

The Communications Specialist role will include but is not limited to:

• Strategic planning, including the creation and implementation of communication plans that align with organizational goals
• Message development, i.e. working directly with drivers and crafting messages and narratives for stakeholders, other workers, and the media
• Media relations, including managing relationships with media outlets, proactively pitching stories, responding to press inquiries, and issuing press releases
• Content creation and management across organizational websites, social media, press releases, reports, presentations and other channels
• Analysis, evaluation, and reporting of communications progress and outcomes
• Collaboration with a diverse team of driver leaders, staff, and allies

Particular consideration will be given to candidates who have senior-level experience in a communications role in nonprofit, labor, or economic justice sectors. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with for-hire driving experience, fluency in language(s) other than English, and community leadership in the region’s diverse immigrant and refugee communities. Drivers Union offers a competitive salary and benefits package that includes full family medical, dental and vision; generous matching 401(k) retirement contributions; holidays and paid time off. Salary compensation will range from $70,000 to $99,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
