Job Description
Summary The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum using the interdisciplinary unit of study(Pre-K), Explorations(3K), and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children?s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.
Duties - Responsible for developing and implementing an ongoing child-centered program of activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each scholar enrolled and responsible for implementing the Pre-K for All Interdisciplinary Units of Study, Explorations (3k).
- Meet weekly with Aim High Leadership Center staff to develop weekly plans and activities.
- Responsible for creating daily lesson plans aligned with Common Core standards and Pre-K for All Quality Standards.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service provided at the Center and professional developments offered by the DOE/DECE.
- Set up and maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
- Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, and self-adaptive skills including toileting.
- Establish a positive relationship with each scholar?s family and share information about the scholar?s day at the Center.
- Conduct individual parent conferences at least twice a year to discuss each scholar?s growth and development.
- Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Assist in toilet training
- Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
- Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment ? including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records, forms.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Requirements - Minimum of 2 years of professional childcare experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
- BA in early childhood education certified or on study plan.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
