Location: Greater Seattle-Tacoma, Washington
Starting Salary Range: $69,305.60 annual starting; negotiable based on experience
Full-Time Exempt; Limited Duration Project

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
AFT Washington is excited to offer the opportunity to engage with our membership and community allies by supporting our organizing, advocacy, and community building efforts as a project-based Organizer.

This position is responsible for:

  • Organizing workers in the Greater Seattle-Tacoma, Washington area
  • Conducting one-on-one in-person visits, site visits, phone and web-based conversations, meetings, and other interaction with workers
  • Attending regular meetings with supervisors and teams to discuss progress, plan activities, and connect with colleagues on the campaign
  • Entering assessments and other relevant data on a regular basis
  • Taking direction and incorporating feedback on work activities to accomplish goals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS UPON START

  • At least one year of previous labor, student, or community organizing with a background in education and/or healthcare issues strongly preferred
  • Dedication to AFT Washington’s values of transformational unionism
  • Committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, knowledgeable about strategies to dismantle institutionalized oppression, and able to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Communication skills both verbal and written
  • Competency in basic computer/web functions, data entry, and social media platforms
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to incorporate constructive feedback and direction from supervisors
  • Willingness to potentially work long and irregular hours
  • Ability to commute to and from work sites in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area with a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle
  • Be motivated, responsible, organized, professional, and detail-oriented

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range starts at $69,305.60/year and negotiable based on experience. Benefits are comprehensive and competitive including fully paid health and dental benefits; paid leave including vacation and sick days; travel and expense reimbursements. This position is not in the bargaining unit and is for a limited duration and project dependent.
